Over the past few weeks myself and my group have been trying to find some exemplar videos which we could use in our movie trailer.
In order to find some ideas for our movie trailer we decided to start by looking a few movie trailers which would influence our choice on the movie trailer. It was very important that we looked at many different movie trailers because this could help us see how some movie trailers are structured.
Whilst researching some movie trailers we realised that one of the things we all had in common was that we all liked action/ sci-fi movie trailers therefore this influenced which movie trailer we viewed.
Group Research
The first movie trailer we viewed was a movie trailer called the "Matrix" which was an action/sci-fi movie packed plenty of effects and action scenes. This trailer consisted of many different mise en scene and scientific elements used such as futuristic worlds, weapons, dress code and many more. We were impressed by how the trailer was structured from start to finish, telling the story of how Neo (the focal character) became a part of the Matrix. This made the storyline of the trailer very easy to follow and understand therefore we decided that we would also aim to do the same in our own trailer.
The second we also found was a trailer called "Taken 2" this trailer would be categorized as an action/thriller trailer. There wasn't any futuristic or sci-fi elements used similar to the Matrix trailer however there was a lot of violence and action in this trailer. We were very impressed by the pace and editing used in the trailer. The music matched the editing and the pace of the trailer was very quick after the first minute of the trailer. We also aim to use this type of pace and editing in our own movie trailer. In addition, the trailer also had a clear storyline, making it easy to understand what was happening similar to the Matrix trailer.
The movie trailer we looked at was the "Prometheus" movie trailer. This movie trailer was similar to the Taken movie trailer in terms of the pace and editing used. In addition, it was also similar the Matrix in terms of actions and sci-fi used in the trailer. The group and I thought this trailer was absolutely fantastic! It was very much futuristic based with different elements and characters such as spaceships, aliens and different planets. However, we did feel that it was a bit too futuristic. One of the elements of the trailer the group and I were particularly fond of was the sound used towards the end of the trailer and how the trailer finished with on a cliffhanger. We decided that we also wanted to use this in our movie trailer.
