Trailer Analysis 2

The movie trailer begins slowly with an establishing shot which reveals the city or environment and also the time which the current scene or the whole movie has been filmed. This is also accompanied by a piano instrumental which creates a calm and peaceful atmosphere at the start of that scene.

The opening scene shows the main actor and hero (Liam Neeson) walking into his house to talk to his wife just like a normal working man would. In the scene, his wife says " is Kim doing okay?" which reveals to us that perhaps kim might be their daughter. The next scene also backs this up because Liam Neeson visits his daughter's house with a massive teddy.

This prop (Teddy) symbolises that the man loves his daughter and happiness because a teddy is normally given to children by the parents to make them happy. At this point the viewers are thinking that the movie is of a rom-com genre because the atmosphere is pretty stable and peaceful.

Afterwards, the movie introduces the supporting movie corporations which are going to be distributing the movie. 20th Century Fox is the world's second largest film studio after Warner Bros therefore this indicates to the viewers that the upcoming film will be a great film because it has obviously has a high budget due to the advertising and distribution company such as 20th Century Fox and Europa Corporations which is one of the world's major film distributors and produces in Europe.

The non-diegetic sound used in the trailer changes and becomes faster and tense in order to match the tense situation which was occuring in the sense. Liam Neelson walks into his house again but this time he finds some blood and a knife on the floor. The mise en scene used in the scene symbolises danger or perhaps danger and it also indicates to the audience that something terrible has probably happened which will change the course of the whole movie trailer.

A wide close up shot is used to show Liam Neelson's facial expression when he sees his wife laying dead. Thefacial expression is an important conventions which are always used in a lot of movie trailers because it oftens reveals how the actor feels and it also enables the viewers to predict what might happen next.

When the police arrive at the murder scene Liam Neelson says "I didn't do this" this reveals that he is innocent and is wrongly been convicted. The non-diegetic sound used starts to die down in order to build up suspense and this indicates to the viewers that some form of action is going to happen.

The suspense leads to an out burst of action where Liam Neelson lashes out at the Policemen. Here the editing is fastened to suit the pace of the diegetic sound which is also fast. Transitions are very fast in order to tease the viewers into wanting to see the film. This leads to Liam Neelson jumping out of a window. This scene was filmed through a low-shot in order to show the height which the actor is jumping from. This also adds to the action/thriller genre of the film trailer because there are usually many dangerous scenes where actors risk their lives in action movies. A voice over which says "Wanted for murder" also describes why the police are chasing Liam neelson. Voice overs are often very effective in movie trailers because they are used to commentate the action and to help the users understand what is happening in the trailer.

A low level shot is used to show Liam Neeson running away from danger with the Police shooting are at him but missing. This also adds to the action genre of the movie trailer because it is typically a scene that people would expect to see an action movie. Throughout the trailer, there are different blackout scenes and this normally occurs after any action scenes perhaps this is done to allow the viewers to absorb the current situation and perhaps predict what might happen next.

The Higher ranked police officer at about 0.43 in the trailer starts speaking, the dialogue is continued throughout other scenes and this is almost used a narrative voiceover. As the dialogue continues the scene changes in order to correspond with what the highly ranked police officer is saying.

For example, when the Police officer says "He is a trained sniper" this dialogue is carried over to the next scene where Liam Neelson is shown using a sniper to kil his enemies therefore this corresponds with the voice over.

This is also happens again when the Police officer says "This man here, he knows how to disappear" the transitionis quick and a long shot is used in an underground tunnel to show Liam Neelson disappearing which again corresponds with the narrative voice over.

Between those scenes, the transition used differs as when the Police officer is talking, the duration of the scene is long and there is no background diegetic sounds where as when scene changes to show what the Police officer is narrating, the duration of scene is very quick and the non -diegetic sound ressurrects in order to add a tense atmopshere along with the action being shown.

A dialogue conversation between Liam Neeson and his daughter is used almost as a voice over "Don't trust anybody" A deep non -diegetic sound is also dropped upon to conclude the scene. Again for advertisement purposes, the 20th century fox is shown at the start of the burial scene in order to advertise their company and to indicate the viewers that 20th century fox film coporation distributed and produced the movie. The font size used for the "20th Century Fox presents" is approximately 18 and it uses a clear Arial Sans Serif font in order to present the film corporation clearly and also to outline the important as this particular film corporation are part of the big fivefilm distributors  A crane shot is used to introduce the burial scene and a diegetic sound of sadness is also played along with this in order to correspond with sadness dwelling in that scene.

The dialogue from the villian carries on to the next the villain says "Soon everyone you love will be dead" the scene is swiftly switched to the next scene where a wide shot is used to reveal a group of man who are wearing green army clothes holding guns. This corresponds with the narrative voice over because the villain threatens to kill the Liam Neeson's family and the scene shows a group men getting their guns ready to kill. The music often dies down when there is a voice overthen resurrects when the voice over stops and this is the same pattern which the movie trailer keeps throughout.

A voice over continues as the diegetic sound fades away and Liam Neeson starts a dialogue saying " There are things i have done in my life and i was always ready" the transition slowly fades into the next scene where a close up shot is used to show the Liam Neeson clicking his gun. The diegetic sound produced by action corresponds with the voice over because it portrays that Liam Neeson is ready for action and is ready to fight for family. The prop(gun) used also adds to action/thriller of the movie because this is a prop which is commonly used in the action/thriller movies therefore it fits in well with the genre.

As the voice over continues there are different quick scenes inbetween which are fastened in order to describe what he is talking about  in his dialogue. For example, Liam Neeson says "To protect my family" there is quick scene of his daughter where the lighting is bright perhaps to reveal that his daughter is pure and innocent whereas the next scene has darker lighting in order to emphaises that violence used in the scene in contrast with the other scene where the lighting was lighter. When Liam Neeson says "What do you know" to the villian, a close up shot is used to give the audience a teaser of what villian looks like from the back. I believe this is very effective because it makes the audience more eager to want to see the movie as they would perhaps want to know who the villian is.In addition, the close up shotalso reveals the tattoos on the villain's hand which portrays the villain as being a tough character.

Different effects are also used in the guns shot scenes. I believe that the brightness is increases and rapid sparks are also used to make the gun shots look realistic. In addition, gun shot non-diegetic sounds are also added to scene to suit the rhythm of the gun movement which again makes the whole scene look realistic. More effects are also used in the next scene where very slow motion is used to show the damages caused by gun shots. The pieces of wood flying around are very effective because they add to the action genre of the movie trailer as this is one of the common props which are usually used in action movies.

Transportation is another one of the common conventions which are used in action movies. A police car and a helicopter is also used in the movie trailer which is typical the kind of transportation which are used in action movies therefore this makes the genre of movie trailer more obvious. A voice over is also used to describe how the vehicles are linked to the scene. The Police chief says "The police" and then a police vehicle is shown in the next scene and this also happens again when the Police chief says "The FBI" the camera shows the a helicopter this perhaps portrays that the FBI have a higher status than the Police.

As the intensity of the trailer increases, the duration of the clips becomes shorter and the music also becomes sharper and quicker. In addition, different conventions of action movies are also added as the movie trailer continues. Explosions, car crashes and car stunts editions are also added to the movie trailer in order to make the genre of the movie stronger. Although, some the action movie conventions added such as the flying car is edited, some of the them such as the explosions are real. Each of these scenes are only shown for a matter of seconds to ensure that not too much is exposed to the audience.

Similar to other action movie trailers, the movie trailer ends with a memorable dialogue "Good luck"  which the audience are bound to remember because it is short and easy to remember. Afterwards, the title of the film fades in and shortly afterwards the name of the centred actor "Liam Neeson" also slowly fades in on top of the title. The title is written in a sans serif font which has a font size of about 36 as it covers the whole screen. The 3 which is written in the title is highlighted in a red colour in order to make the audience aware that it is the third sequel of the movie to be made. Several other pages of directors and producers are shown and lastly the release date and many other supporting companies are also shown at the bottom of the page.
